FORMER PARTY COLLEGE ERFURT

At the turn of the year 2020/2021, A.M. Immo-Invest GmbH commissioned the extension and expansion of the old, listed SED Party School ‘Ernst Thälmann’ in Erfurt. The goal is to transform the building complex into a central training center for the General Directorate of Customs.

The future school and training facility will include teaching and office spaces, accommodation for trainees, dining facilities, IT and technical rooms, as well as spaces for leisure activities and sports.

This project places particular emphasis on preserving the historical integrity of the building. The former district party school was constructed between 1969 and 1972 and has been a protected monument since 2008. With its reinforced concrete structure and facade clad in blue aluminum elements, the building complex is a typical example of 1970s East German architecture. Unlike other former party schools, the Erfurt district party school has remained in its original form, including its interior furnishings. Due to its well-preserved state and its significance for the history of the city and the region, the building complex is classified as an architectural monument and deserves special attention.

For its future use as a training facility, comprehensive renovations and modifications are planned across all levels of the existing structure, including a one-story addition and a four-story extension on stilts as a continuation of the existing buildings, the construction of a two-court sports hall in the southeastern part of the property, and the restoration of the outdoor areas in the courtyard and southern entrance in accordance with monument preservation standards.
