WAREHOUSE AND PRODUCTION BUILDING OF THYMOORGAN PHARMAZIE, GOSLAR

The client, Thymoorgan Pharmazie GmbH, commissioned Behzadi + Partner Architects to plan and execute the expansion of their existing industrial facility by constructing a new multi-story warehouse and industrial building on the same site.

The new freestanding building will be located southeast of the existing structure. It will consist of a single-story section housing a main warehouse (high-bay storage) with a floor area of approximately 350 m² and a clear ceiling height of about 13 meters. Additionally, a three- to four-story section will accommodate several smaller auxiliary storage areas, material preparation areas, office spaces, and a cafeteria with a café.

All technical rooms will be located on an intermediate floor above the ground floor, which only extends over a portion of the otherwise three-story sections. The connection to the company’s internal infrastructure will be facilitated through a two-story, lightweight, fully glazed link to the existing building. This walkway will also provide employees of the existing production facility with direct access to the new cafeteria on the first floor and, from there, to the terrace and parking spaces.

The exterior walls, made of precast concrete panels, define the uniform appearance of the building. The compact form is only interrupted by the recessed loading ramps.

The main building’s compact design is divided into two structural elements: the large high-bay storage area extending across all floors and the multi-story, smaller functional areas. All load-bearing and stabilizing components of the building will be constructed of fire-resistant reinforced concrete.

Since the warehouse must be free of columns or other load-bearing elements, the roof loads will be transferred using a frame structure with trusses and supports anchored in sleeve foundations along the exterior walls. This design allows for an unobstructed floor area of approximately 16 x 24 meters in the warehouse.
