TAHRIR SQUARE, EL-TAHRIR SQUARE, CAIRO, EGYPT
Following the revolution in Egypt in February 2011, the ICARCH Gallery in Cairo announced an international design competition for the redesign of Tahrir Square.
In our design, the aim was to incorporate the power and thoughts of the Egyptian people’s revolution into the redesign of the square. The fundamental principle consists of variable cubes (70x70x70 cm) arranged to symbolize the mass of the protesting people. The square is intended to serve as a place of active remembrance. To alleviate the main traffic artery of Tahrir Square, an underground tunnel system was developed as part of the design.
