FAMULUS HOUSE, LEIPZIG

The Famulus House, completed in 1992, marked the beginning of the redevelopment of a war-damaged city center district in Leipzig.

The site derives its dynamic character from the juxtaposition of historical and modern urban structures, including the urban department store and the university’s new building. Embracing the various lines of the urban environment, the office and commercial building represents a modern interpretation of the opposite Messepalast, using contemporary materials. The Famulus House adds to the functional offerings of Leipzig’s city center with its inclusion of restaurants, office spaces, and an underground parking garage.
