NEW DEVELOPMENT PETERSSTEINWEG / NONNENMÜHLGASSE, LEIPZIG

Between the matter-of-fact, restrained Catholic Church of St. Trinitatis and the eclectic corner edge development of the Leipzig Criminal Police Inspectorate, which is typical of the previous century, a building structured in a crystalline appearance is positioned. The prominent location in the immediate vicinity of the city centre and the southern centre, as well as the church of St. Trinitatis in particular, are key design factors.

With this building design and its crystalline façade structure, tailored to the perimeter block development laid out on the site, the objective along Petersteinweg is to formulate an important urban and architectural prelude to one of Leipzig’s central arterial roads and the restructuring of Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz.

With the proposed façade design, the façade structures that have so far prevailed along Petersteinweg and Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse, mostly in a strict vertical grid, are deliberately not to be continued. With its urban design effect from the Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz opposite and the clear structure of the church façade, the design represents a self-confident contribution to future urban planning and architectural developments.

Formulated in a modern architectural language, the façade image of white anodised aluminium sheet is developed into an independent and self-confident building type by means of wall surfaces arranged in a trapezoidal shape and uniformly structured window openings.

The north-eastern corner of the top floor is positioned from afar via an exposed façade in the direction of the city centre and Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz. The Sky Bar located there thus becomes a key element of the façade design and gives the crystalline façade structure a crowning finish.

The four usage modules office and commercial/shops, hotel, residential and assisted living are distributed over the four sides of the perimeter block development with emphasis on address formation, access, sound insulation, user comfort and, if necessary, future synergy effects.
