REDEVELOPMENT OF THE QUARTER AT GROSSE BRAUHAUSSTRASSE, HALLE

For the redevelopment of the quarter at Große Brauhausstraße/Corner of Rannische Straße in Halle (Saale), the GP Papenburg Group organized a closed anonymous competition. The goal was to realize residential units and commercial spaces on the ground floor, with a focus on achieving a harmonious facade design within the historically varied surroundings from different eras.

The design for the development at Große Brauhausstraße 17 integrates the existing buildings by creating an urban niche, which forms a small forecourt. Together with Jerusalem Square, the street is enlivened by widened areas that provide quiet zones with high-quality outdoor spaces and visual connections. For the facade design, a cream-colored clinker brick was chosen due to its traditional use in the area.

For the corner building at Große Brauhausstraße/Corner of Rannische Straße, the design responds to the surrounding architecture with horizontal divisions and a rounded corner. Repeating window proportions and stepped floors create a visual link between the two buildings and their surroundings.
