OFFICE BUILDING AND RESIDENCE AMMAN, JORDAN
According to the assignment, the feasibility of relocating the chancery building and the residence of the German Embassy in Amman, Jordan, to a separate plot of land was to be examined.
The plot intended for the new construction is approximately 13,683.00 m² in size. Various development options were to be investigated based on site plans, considering economic aspects and security issues, with the goal of optimizing the land use. The aim was also to allocate the remaining land area for alternative uses.
Three possible building structures for the chancery and residence were examined and depicted according to site plan variants. Variant 1 is considered the preferred option for functional, design, and economic reasons.
In Site Plan Variant 1, two separate but interconnected building volumes are proposed. These are set back from each street side, from Moh`d Ali Jinnah Street, taking into account the necessary security distance of 20 meters. Functional and traffic access is provided exclusively from Al Sowais Street. The advantage of this variant is the reduced land use for the planned construction. The remaining land can potentially serve as a “natural” buffer to the embassy property.
The architectural separation of the chancery and residence creates a functional distinction that is visually apparent. The buildings are arranged around a “courtyard” or “inner courtyard,” with the structures oriented inward.
