GERMAN EMBASSY TOKYO, RESIDENCE-MINATO-KU, TOKYO
After a brief preparation period, preliminary planning for the residence in Tokyo, including the development of a requirements specification, was completed in June/July 2013.
On behalf of the Federal Foreign Office, a preliminary plan for the complete renovation of the building, including the full renewal of the building technology, was developed for the residence of the German Ambassador in Tokyo in June/July 2013. The preliminary planning also included the creation of a bilingual requirements specification to define the project tasks.
Based on the preliminary and design planning provided by Behzadi + Partner Architects BDA, a Japanese planner and executing Japanese companies were selected through a procurement process.
After the appointment of a general contractor, our office took over project management and supervision starting in 2014. This involved on-site support in Tokyo, with a reinforced presence, during the preparation of the execution plans and construction supervision.
Using Japan’s typical organizational structures and construction methods, the residence was restored to its former glory.
The project was completed on schedule, with the official handover to the German Embassy in September 2014. On October 3, 2014, the garden of the residence was celebrated with approximately 1,500 guests under the banner of the rising sun.
The architects thank everyone for the successful collaboration and the completely new experiences gained during the project’s implementation.
