DER STROHSACK, LEIPZIG
With the construction of the Strohsack and its passage system, a building was created that takes up and continues the tradition of the Leipzig town house.
The passage, which extends into inner courtyards and a two-storey gallery, connects Nikolaistrasse with Ritterstrasse in the center of Leipzig. The differentiated treatment of the resulting spaces, the alternation of path and square areas is supported by a coordinated lighting concept and a choice of materials that characterizes the location. Inside the passage is Europe’s largest floor clock, which was designed in collaboration with the graphic artist Reinhard Minkewitz. Nikolaistraße is home to generously designed stores, wholesale areas, restaurants, offices and a fitness studio.
