GYMNASIUM UNIVERSITY OF POTSDAM

In 2015, the office was commissioned through a selection process to deliver a highly demanding building design.

From April 2017, the construction of the new gymnastics hall for the University of Potsdam was planned. The chosen location was intended to enhance the existing sports facilities at the central Luftschiffhafen site in Potsdam.

The design features variously shaped building volumes. The main functional areas are characterized by a free-form, curtain-like facade structure.

The main hall includes apparatus such as vaulting pits, horizontal bars, parallel bars, and other equipment for classic gymnastics. Surrounding this main space are additional mat halls for rhythmic gymnastics and other strength training areas.

On the upper floor, there are separate training and coach rooms.

Construction began in August 2017, and completion was scheduled for the second quarter of 2020.

The official opening of the gymnastics hall took place on October 1, 2021. The Vice President of the University of Potsdam expressed gratitude during a speech, highlighting the importance of the hall for the university and its students. Gerit Fischer, the technical managing director of the Brandenburg State Office for Real Estate and Construction (BLB), also praised the project, addressing the challenges faced during the project and the high recognizability due to the polygonal openings.
