New hotel construction and restoration of an inn with residential building at the Day of Architecture, Leipzig, Wiederitzsch

On 29.06.2019, we took the Day of Architecture as an opportunity to provide insights into the project “New Hotel Construction & Restoration of Inns with Residential Building”, which is currently under construction. The response was very good, and many visitors came to find out more about the construction project.

For the former cultural centre in the north of Leipzig (OT Wiederitzsch), which has been vacant for more than two decades, the course has been set for a sustainable and permanent use.

The ensemble of buildings built in the late 19th century under the name “Bergschlösschen Groß-Wiederitzsch”, on today’s Delitzscher Landstraße, is now owned by a committed family of restaurateurs, who would like to feed and accommodate their first guests as early as next year.

The demolition work around the former cultural center “Haus Wiederitzsch” including the dance hall has already been completed.
A new hotel building is currently being built on this site.
After completion of the demolition project, only the historic front building along the road was to be preserved. After an intensive technical assessment of the building’s substance, restoration assessments and the analysis of the existing stability, solutions for the preservation of this substance were sought in coordination with the city of Leipzig and the building owner.
Unfortunately, the building had been unused for too many years/decades and was ultimately too badly damaged that dismantling was now unavoidable.
The front building will now be rebuilt in its full splendour and original scale in accordance with its original period of around 1870/80 and will continue to be an essential face of the new building ensemble in the future.

The rectilinear slender structure at the back of the property is already clearly visible, the shell construction work of the 100-bed hotel, on the site of the former dance hall, has already progressed up to the 1st floor. Recently, the first façade-defining window was installed and sampled by those involved.
