For an exposed triangular plot of land in the immediate vicinity of Leipzig’s New Town Hall, HOCHTIEF Construction AG launched a non-restricted, anonymous competition.
Areas for retail, restaurants, flexible offices and apartments are to find an adequate urban and architectural equivalent for this location.
Accepting the historic structure of the adjacent New Town Hall, the design subordinates itself to the monumental building by Hugo Licht, not without underlining its design and functional independence.
The work of Behzadi + Partner Architects, together with two other works, was awarded a 1st prize.
In mid-November 2010, the organizer decided that a design by the participating award winners should be implemented.
Construction was scheduled to begin in autumn 2011.
