Hafenquartier Mitte, Berlin
The design of 11 houses was awarded 1st prize as part of an appraisal process. The houses are ridden together in a three-way module, 4 times, along a characteristic city park edge. Different apartment floor plans are created, which show a differentiated use, including the consistent separation of individual areas and common spaces.
The townhouse – for almost ten years now, this building typology has once again played an essential role in the architectural and urban planning debate. This is especially true for Berlin. Following the state’s withdrawal from social housing programs and a renaissance of the inner city, privately financed individual housing projects are receiving new attention.
