A temporary home for art: Pinakothek der Moderne exhibition centre, Munich

Designed by J. Mayer H. Architects, a temporary, open scaffolding building was created to serve as a temporary exhibition space for the four collections of the Pinakothek der Moderne during the refurbishment.

The Pinakothek der Moderne will be closed for renovation work from February 2013 until probably September 2013. This temporary closure was seen as an opportunity: With a temporary exhibition building – the “Schaustelle” – the four collections of the Pinakothek der Moderne are establishing a temporary platform for exhibitions, workshops, lectures, performance, film, video and more for the duration of the refurbishment measures on the initiative of the Pinakothek der Moderne Foundation.

The design of the “Schaustelle” by J. Mayer H. Architects provided a temporary exhibition space for the 4 collections of the Pinakothek der Moderne.
Behzadi + Partner Architekten BDA developed the implementation planning for the temporary building and solved complicated planning tasks and logistical issues as part of the construction supervision.
