Groundbreaking for "Havelwelle": Opening in 2025
The facility is being constructed in Nuthetal, just 200 meters from the Rehbrücke train station, and is expected to be completed in 2025. The Havelwelle will feature a 14-meter-wide artificial wave—the widest of its kind in the world—attracting both recreational and professional surfers. Additionally, the project includes five tiny houses for up to 26 overnight guests, as well as dining and event spaces.
Construction of the 50-meter-long and 36-meter-wide hall is progressing rapidly. Next week, the foundation slab will be completed, followed by the pool walls in two months. Architect Anuschah Behzadi, who has already completed 20 sports facilities across Germany, including the new gym at the Potsdam Airship Port, is leading the project. He highlights the technical challenges, especially the six-meter-deep pool, which will be equipped with powerful pumps to create the 3,500 cubic meters of water into a wave.
We place great emphasis on sustainability. The Havelwelle will be an environmentally friendly sports facility, using waste heat from turbines for climate control and exclusively using green electricity. Additionally, a photovoltaic system is planned for the roof or parking lot to further enhance the project’s sustainability. The Havelwelle is scheduled for completion in summer 2025, in time for the upcoming surfing season.
